From the desk of CDD CSO Sean Ekins, M.Sc., Ph.D., D.Sc.
Last year CDD wrote a review about databases and collaboration in the area of human stem cell research. The article is now published in Drug Discovery Today* and you can get a free copy for the next month or so.
The goal of the article was to examine the current public data space in stem cell research, and to find the gaps. We also provide an example of how the CDD Vault can be used to solve the main problems of secure data sharing, with an additional advantage of built-in computational modeling of the data repository.
The problem of gaps in capturing and exploiting the results of past and current research is not unique to stem cell research. The proposed approach of a definitive and centralized repository in conjunction with computational modeling can be applied in many different areas.
Please let us know if you have suggestions of different data types and research areas which we could cover in a future publication. It may also prompt us to find public data-sets we can highlight in CDD Public too.
Until then, happy reading!
